Fiberglass Chairs and Plastic Chairs are among the most important furniture designs of the 20th century. Charles and Ray Eames created them in 1948 to participate in the “International Competition for Low-Cost Furniture Design” at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
The goal of the Eames was to create a shell in one piece that would adapt to the contours of the human body. The search for alternative materials led to the polyester resin reinforced with fiberglass, material until then unknown to the furniture industry. This chair was a new type of furniture because the housing could be combined with different types of legs.
en linea barcelona presents the exhibition “the Chair of a Century” which will show the transition and evolution of the chair from the beginning to the present. The exhibition, carried out with the collaboration and support of the swiss company Vitra, will take place in the Modernist-Nouveau building of 1924, headquarters of en linea barcelona, from 13 to 20 June. On Thursday, June 20, starting at 7:00 p.m. a cocktail will take place. Later we will proceed to raffle an Eames RAR seat among all the people who attend it.
