Disseny perdurable: l’extractor B-10 de Cata 1989-2019

#BDW19

In 1989, the Josep Puig studio designed the B10 bathroom extractor. Today this product is still in the market. Learn about an analog design process and its evolution

“At the beginning of 1989, through the BCD, I was commissioned to design a new casing for the axial bath extractor for the company Electro Mecánica Cata de Torelló (Barcelona). That design was the beginning of a long collaboration, first individually and then associated with designer Josep Novell, which allowed us to cover a wide variety of household appliances: heaters, fans, convectors, thermo-fans, kitchen extractor hoods, etc … Also during this period, which goes from 1989 to 2006, we experienced the evolution of the design made with analogue resources to digital design. We were also able to work, first with Asian suppliers and then with the own factory in China.”

This small exhibition shows some details of the design process of the B10 extractor, which is now thirty years old, and continues on the market with its entire range. You can also see the evolution of the design and how other extractors were obtained that completed the offer of this small appliance. The B10 obtained a Delta selection (1990), the extractor hood Modula the Silver Delta Award (2001) and the X-Mart extractor the Silver Delta Award (2005).
