Economic Promotion is the instrument that Barcelona City Council uses to stimulate the economic development of the city. The Economic Promotion Sector covers the following areas of work: International Economic Promotion; Internal Economic Promotion; Barcelona Activa, the Local Development Agency; Comerç i Consum, Trade and Consumer Affairs; The Knowledge City; The Municipal de Mercats, Mercabarna, Barcelona22@ and Turisme de Barcelona. The objectives of all these motors of economic activity are to develop the economic potential of Barcelona through the installation of quality companies and the fostering of economic clusters; to attract and retain foreign economic activity; to launch Barcelona companies internationally; to strengthen the existing business fabric; to promote economy of proximity in the city's neighbourhoods through traditional trade; to foster quality employment and employment in the new emerging sectors; to disseminate new technologies and knowledge through economic studies of the economic situation of Catalonia's capital city. Their purpose is to reinforce the economic foundations of the city that make it possible to retain talent, reinforce the business-oriented university model, strengthen business financing and cooperation for large projects, and to reinforce leadership in design, creativity, and innovation.
