After the success of previous editions, the BDW 2010 includes again the design circuit of professionals who belong to the Directory of designers of BCD. As new this year, several routes will be scheduled to cover different areas in the city.

During the day that closes the BDW 2010, participants in this open day will enter in the professional design sector by a circuit that includes visits to professional  and studies of the city, a unique opportunity to see first hand the work of designers.

Ana Mir (València 1969) and Emili Padrós (Barcelona 1969) had a master degree in industrial design by Central Saint Martins (London), and founded in 1996 Emiliana Design Studio to develop joint projects. They cover wide range of projects from interior design, product and furniture design.  Mir and Padrós maintain a constant link to teaching. Emili was the General Secretary of FAD from 2001 to 2005. Pöko Design is the studio of eco designer Petz Scholtus. The studio was created in 2009 and focuses on designing a collection of products for urban life which respect the environment. Pöko Design also combines sustainable design thinking with interior design projects, consultancy and events. Petz Scholtus studied eco-design in London (Goldsmiths College), and worked in the Netherlands and Tanzania before arriving in Barcelona to work with Javier Mariscal and Curro Claret. MoreraDesign is a design agency specializing in the creation of strategic identity, for projects of branding, packaging and corporate image, at international level. Making new experiences for people, reinventing, approaching people and making constant proposals, that’s how clear things are for this team of architects and industrial designers led by Xavier Claramunt. For these professionals, the development process is just as important as the end product. In a desire to offer constant innovation, they have just launched a new approach to projects – “Responses” (or “LAB”). This initiative combines the disciplines of architecture, interior design, industrial design and jewellery, areas where the team has been active since 1990. Besides opening their own office in China in 2005, EQUIP Xavier Claramunt also works together with Ferran Adrià, Hospes Hoteles, BMW, Chic&Basic and Cosmic. All projects carried out by EQUIP Xavier Claramunt are based on three premises which trigger such projects into action – reinvention, approaching people and constant proposals, all of them free from inhibition. As they explain, “The first premise is constant reinvention in the way of understanding things. We review everything unreservedly, from the developed product to attitudes to work and process management. The second is the desire to approach people with products which inspire them into action and are useful to them. The third is a proposal strategy for redefining concepts and strategies which offer us explanations and enable us to produce new products”. Amongst its many projects those which particularly stand out are the BMW showroom in Sabadell (Premis FAD finalist), hotel Chic&Basic in Barcelona (First Prize ContractWorld Awards and Present Future Awards), hotel Hospes Granada (First Prize Condé Nast Johansens), hotel Hospes Palma (First Prize Calvià d’Arquitectura) or Casa Mur in Igualada (finalist at Premi d’Arquitectura de la Vivenda a Catalunya J.A.Coderch). In Parallel LAB have give its first results: a proposal for a hotel in the space (Galactic Suite) and the fist study for a hotel in the subsea world (Sea Suite).

Antoni Arola, interior and industrial designer, studied at the Escuela Superior de Diseño Eina (Eina Superior School of Design and Art) in Barcelona. In 1984 he started his professional career at the Estudio Lievore y Pensi. In 1990 he joined the company Associate Designers and in 1994 set up his own studio in Barcelona, Estudi Arola. He has undertaken design work in a wide variety of fields: projects in lighting for Santa & Cole, Metalarte, B&D or Viabizzuno, furniture for Dynamobel, Vilagrasa or ArtQuitect, perfume bottles for Armand Basi, Angel Schlesser, Mandarina Duck, Loewe and Custo; and also interior design that emphasize the restaurants Mos, Oven or Citrus, Cacao Sampaka’s shop, the Torres cellar and the new offices for La Caixa. He is acknowledged as a very versatile and original designer both for his artistic side and for the inspiration he draws from ancestral cultures and he has standed out because of his  particular vision of light, almost sculptural. Among other prizes, like two Delta Design Awards, Arola won the Nacional Design Prize in 2003, awarded for “the maturity of a professional career that covers a wide spectrum, ranging from interior design to product design, displaying great consistency, originality and passion” (jury’s note).
