Professor and Director of the Department of the Environment and Science at “la Caixa” Foundation, Barcelona
Jorge Wagensberg (1948) is a professor of the Theory of Irreversible Processes at the University of Barcelona’s Faculty of Physics. He created and manages the Tusquets publishing company’s “Metatemas” series, an authoritative collection for scientific thought that had been operational for 22 years in 2005. From 1991 to 2005 he directed the “la Caixa” Foundation’s Science Museum, a pioneering institution in the world among others of the same category. Currently, he is the director of the Department of the Environment and Science at “la Caixa” Foundation. In 2007 he was awarded the Cross of Sant Jordi from the government of Catalonia.
Wagensberg has published around one hundred research works in areas as diverse as thermodynamics, mathematics, biophysics, microbiology, palaeontology, entomology, scientific museology and the philosophy of science. Among other books, Wagensberg has written Nosotros y la ciencia (1980), Ideas sobre la complejidad del mundo (1985; translated into French as L’âme de la méduse, 1997), Amazonia, ilusiones ilustradas (1996), Introducció a la teoria de la probabilitat i la informació (1996; in cooperation with J.
